2021 Jeep Gladiator Interior Lucedale, MS

What’s New in the 2021 Jeep Gladiator?

For 2021, Jeep expands the Gladiator’s powertrain options with a robust turbodiesel option that generates 260 horsepower as well as 442 lb-ft of torque. The standard V6 puts out 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and either option delivers all the muscle you need for confident off-roading and timely highway passing. When fully equipped for work truck duties, the Gladiator can pull 7,650 pounds and haul 1,700 pounds.

While the Gladiator handles with composure on city streets and rush-hour highways, it truly shines in true Jeep fashion when you take it off the paved roads and into the wild. The Gladiator’s resemblance to the athletic Wrangler are more than just aesthetics, as the truck can tackle uneven terrain with serious traction and trail-ready gear. Across the trim range, you’ll find off-roading equipment like skid plates, plus anti-roll bars and locking differentials in the sturdy Rubicon trim. The pickup’s high ground clearance also allows you to travel over brush and jagged landscapes with confidence, and even ford up to 30 inches of water.

On the inside, the Gladiator sports a hearty fit and finish that can stand up to whatever elements you might track in while on your next off-road jaunt. The durable materials are easy to clean, and the push-button start function is thoughtfully water-resistant. There’s plenty of legroom and shoulder room in any of the five seats, and back-row passengers will benefit from the generous space afforded by the long wheelbase. To really open up the cabin, you can also remove the roof and body panels.

The dashboard stands completely vertical for a convenient and utilitarian appearance, and it offers easy reach to the onboard infotainment system. A responsive touchscreen offers tech options like smartphone integration, while navigation and other conveniences are available. Jeep also provides a variety of safety options to help you avoid hazards, and the 2021 model can be equipped with blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, and more.

History of the Jeep Gladiator

The Willys-Overland proved itself over inhospitable ground in World War II, and returned stateside after the conflict was over to find a new life in the domestic market. The vehicle that would give rise to Jeep’s modern off-roading fleet saw several trial iterations following the war, and a Willys-Overland truck was designed to serve farmers with lasting durability. By 1962, Jeep had honed their truck design into the original Gladiator, which shared a unique fascia design with a hearty Wagoneer. Available with several truck bed or trailer configurations, the pickup met the needs of American drivers for nearly a decade before Jeep introduced a new truck design, the J-Series in 1971. This model was in production through 1987, when Jeep took a hiatus from pickup truck development.

By the mid-2000s, rumors and concepts began to circulate regarding a new Jeep truck, until the maker confirmed the return of the Gladiator for 2019. The new generation debuted with a Wrangler-inspired cab, the familiar seven-slotted grille, and serious hauling and towing abilities to compliment renowned Jeep off-roading aptitude.
